    Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium is additional funding from the Government to support children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Research shows that, nationally, these pupils can face more barriers to learning and may not achieve as highly as their peers. The funding is designed to help schools remove those barriers and support every child to reach their potential.

Children who are eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) are used as the main measure of disadvantage, so funding is allocated to schools based on the number of children who have ever been eligible for FSM.

At St Issey C of E Primary School, we use this funding to provide extra support and opportunities for these children, with the aim of narrowing the attainment gap between pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds and those who are not.

The Government does not specify how schools must spend the money. Instead, schools are trusted to use strategies that will have the greatest impact on children’s progress and outcomes. We carefully plan how to use our funding and monitor the difference it makes. Schools are held accountable for how this money is spent.

You can read more about how we use our funding in our Pupil Premium Policy and our Pupil Premium Strategy Reports.

Check if your child is eligible: Even if your child is in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 and already receives free school meals under the universal scheme, registering for Free School Meals could mean the school receives additional funding to support them. You can find out more and apply through the Cornwall Council website.
