Pupil Premium is extra Government funding that supports children from disadvantaged backgrounds. National research shows that these pupils can face extra barriers to learning and sometimes do not achieve as highly as their peers. The funding helps schools reduce those barriers so every child can reach their potential.
The main measure of disadvantage is eligibility for Free School Meals (FSM). Funding is allocated to schools based on the number of children who have ever been eligible for FSM.
At St Issey C of E Primary School, you use this funding for extra support and opportunities, aiming to narrow the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and other pupils.
There are no set rules around how the money must be spent. Schools choose approaches that will have the greatest impact on progress and outcomes. You plan how the funding is used and check the difference it makes. Schools are accountable for this spending.
You can read more in your Pupil Premium Policy and Pupil Premium Strategy Reports.
Check if your child is eligible
If your child is in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2, they already receive a free meal through the universal scheme. Registering for FSM may still mean extra funding for the school that supports your child. Families can apply through the Cornwall Council website.
